This page will explain how to retrieve, upload, and use video thumbnails for their pages. Before uploading any thumbnail for a page, however, please check for any other thumbnails that may already exist.
Retrieving thumbnails from video links[]
First, find the video ID—it can be found in two ways:
- Opening the video and going to the URL
- Clicking the share button (three dots next to the unopened video, click "Share" from there.)
The video ID will be at the end of the URL. If you opened the video, it will look like this:
- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61nuXrvqNgI (This is Journey to the West, btw)
If you clicked the share link, it will look like this:
Copy the video ID and use this link:
- img.youtube.com/vi/[INSERT VIDEO ID HERE]/maxresdefault.jpg
If all is done right, you will have a full screen image of the thumbnail!
Saving the thumbnail file[]
Right click on the now full size thumbnail and click "Save image as...". This will open files. Save it as:
- [SERIES] [EPISODE TITLE] Thumbnail.jpg
Shortening bits is fine; for example: Legends Summarized The Monkey King (Journey to the West Part 1) Thumbnail, or shortened to LS JTTW pt 1 Thumbnail, LS The Monkey King JTTW 1 Thumbnail are all acceptable. However, make sure that "Thumbnail" is in the file name before uploading.
Uploading the thumbnail file[]
There are two ways to upload a file:
- The Upload File page
- From the source editing of a page
To upload from the Upload File page, click the hyperlink above. Click "Choose File" and select the thumbnail. After that, click "Upload file" at the bottom of the page. The thumbnail file will then be uploaded to the wiki.
If you are in the source editor for a page, click the "Mass Upload" symbol (an open box with an upwards arrow). Drag and drop the thumbnail file into the designated area or click "Select Files" and select the thumbnail. Then, click "Upload All" and the file will be uploaded to the wiki.
Using the thumbnail file[]
If you are putting the thumbnail in a pages infobox, simply type the full file name (with the .jpg, .png, etc.) in the "image" section of the infobox editing area. If you are putting the thumbnail in one of the series pages, type [[File:[FULL FILE NAME]|180x180px]] into the proper area. The "180x180px" will reduce the image to the proper size. Use other parts of the page for guidance.
If all is followed correctly, you will be able to upload and use thumbnails on the wiki. Happy editing!
